Pedigreed. Sha'arei Dura, first edition with the Maharshal commentary - Basel, 1599.

"פתחו שערים ויבא גוי צדיק" - Sefer Sha'arei Dura, Piskei Halachot pertaining to Issur and Heiter, by Rabbi Yitzchak Halevi of Dura, with a commentary and glosses by Rabbi Shlomo Luria (the Maharshal) . At the press of the artist Conrad Woldkilch.

The importance of the book is indicated by the fact that Maran the Beit Yosef and the Rema cite it frequently and rely on its Psakim.

Many Poskim wrote their glosses around this book, the most famed of these being the author of Terumat Hadeshen. This is the sixth edition of the book and the first one with the Maharshal's glosses on the book.

This edition was published in Basel by a disciple of the Maharshal Av Beit Din of Worms Rabbi Eliyahu Luantz who was known as Rabbi Eliyahu Baal Shem for his occupation with Kabbalah and writing amulets based on practical Kabbalah

In his foreword to this edition, he writes:  "אני המעתיק קראתיו 'מכונות', כי הם המכונות שעשה שלמה על כל הג"ה והג"ה חדשות גם ישנות, ובפרט באשר הספר מתחיל בעשר שערים נכונות במספר כמו המכונות".

At the end of the copy, Rabbi Eliyahu introduced two Kitzurei halachot on Machalot Asurot and Hilchot Nidah by the author Rabbi Yitzchak Dura.

The title page attributes, by mistake, the Chidushei Issur and Heiter to the compiler.

Pedigreed copy signature of the Gaon Rabbi Yehuda Binyamin Wolf Neckarsulmer Av Beit Din Schneittach and Ram of the Kloiz of Furth (1801-1880), a disciple of the Sha'ar Hazkenim.

After the passing of his Rav, Rabbi Binyamin was supposed to succeed him as Rav of Furth. Due to the influence of the reformers, the authorities required knowledge of science and German. Although Rabbeinu passed these tests, his nomination was cancelled on the pretext that he lacked the title of Dr.

An additional signature on the title page  "ליב בר מרדכי ממוסבך" and an additional ownership notation on the first leaf.

On verso of the title page, stamp of the library of the Seminar for Rabbis of Berlin.
