Benjamin Disraeli – “Confidential” Autograph Envelope to Montagu Corry, Signed “Ch. of Exchequer” - Autograph envelope written in the hand of Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881) during his tenure as Chancellor of the Exchequer, and addressed to his trusted private secretary and close confidant Montagu Corry (1838–1903), later Baron Rowton. Disraeli has inscribed “Confidential” above the address to “Montagu Corry Esq.” and signed the cover in his official capacity “Ch. of Exchequer.” Corry served for many years as Disraeli’s private secretary and became one of his closest and most trusted associates, giving the cover a particularly interesting personal and political association. The reverse bears a blind-embossed armorial impression, described in the earlier collection documentation as the Chancellor’s seal. An interesting political autograph item, marked “Confidential” and bearing Disraeli’s handwriting and his signature in his official capacity as Chancellor of the Exchequer.
