Benjamin Disraeli – Private Cover Sent to Him, Signed by an Unidentified Sender, with Heraldic Device and Crown – 19th Century - A Victorian private cover sent to Benjamin Disraeli (1804–1881), the British statesman and author who served twice as Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. The cover is prominently marked “Private” and addressed in manuscript to: “The Rt. Hon. B. Disraeli M.P.” The front bears a manuscript signature of the sender, whose identity and signature have not been conclusively identified. The reverse features a particularly impressive large black heraldic device, incorporating a crown above a central armorial shield and surrounded by an English inscription. The device remains well preserved and largely clear, although its owner has not been identified. The envelope has a black border in a style characteristic of Victorian stationery of the period. An intriguing piece of Victorian ephemera and autograph material, sent directly to Benjamin Disraeli and distinguished by its “Private” designation, unidentified sender’s signature and impressive heraldic device with crown on the reverse.
