A Schoolgirl Sample by Elizabeth Groves, 1814
A large American example, in a good tiger maple frame which may be original to the sample. The text reads, "Jesus permit thy gracious name to stand as the first efforts of an infants hand with thy dear children let her share a part and write thy name thyself upon her heart. Elizabeth Groves, her work aged 8 years, 1814". The decoration includes a house, birds, flowers, and a strawberry vine border.
Dimensions: sight is 21 1/4" x 21 1/4", the frame 25 1/4" x 25 1/4".
Condition:
Toned, the top margin is torn as pictured. Not examined out of the frame.
