Classic work “defending” Rashi from the questions of the Ba’alei HaTosfos, by R. Yehoshua of Cracow. In the introduction the author writes that Rashi appeared to him in a dream in appreciation of this defense. It is said that at the time of his death he stated that Rashi had come to escort him to Heaven.

R. Yehoshua of Cracow (1580-1648), was one of the great Achronim. He was a student of both the SM”A and the MaHaRaM M’Lublin. His most notable student was The Shach. He served as Rav and Rosh Av Beis Din of Cracow, following the Megaleh Amukos.

Classics. Chidushei Halachos MaHaRaM Schiff Chelek Sheini. Hamburg 1741. Rare!

Classic work of novella on various Masechtos in Shas, as well as some Deroshos by R. Meir Ha’Cohen Schiff.

R. Meir Schiff known as the MaHaRaM Schiff (1605-1641), was one of the greatest Talmidei Chachomim of his time. At the young age of seventeen, he was appointed to the distinguished position as Rav of Fulda, where he also headed a famous yeshivah. His novella are classics of Talmudic discourses and remain widely learned up until today.

R. Wolf Hamburger (1770-1850), was one of the most prominent Rabbinical figures in Germany. He served as Rosh Yeshiva in the great Yeshiva of Furth. He was widely respected by his Rabbinical contemporaries including the Chasam Sofer with whom he corresponded. He authored numerous seforim including his classic Sha’ar Ha’Zkaynim. He battled mightily against the Reform movement and had to contend with many adversities of which he bitterly complains in his Seforim (see preface to Simlas Binyamin). His Yeshiva was closed, and he was forced to leave the city. He had many distinguished students including R. Seligman Ber Bamberger and R. Avrohom Rice, both of whom valiantly upheld Orthodox Judaism in their respective countries.
