R. Yisroel Eliyahu Weintraub. Regarding appropriate eating Habits. Bnei Brak 1999
Fascinating autograph letter by R. Yisroel Eliyahu Weintraub responding to a question (on the reverse side of the page), of one who has difficulty controlling the amount he eats. R. Weintraub responds that until the age of 23, one should be particularly careful to eat properly order to ensure a healthy body for the rest of his life. He suggests the “Taanis HaRAVA”D”, of leaving over a little food from every meal, as a way to curb ones desires. He continues that the ultimate goal, which comes after years of working on oneself, is the realization that true sustenance comes from Torah study. In his typical self-effacing manner, R. Weintraub crossed out the honorifics at the beginning of the letter, labeling them as a mistake.
R. Yisroel Eliyahu Weintraub (1932-2010), was born in the United States and learned under R. Hutner, R. Abba Berman and R. Shmuel Berenbaum. At the age of 24 he published his first of many seforim, titled Pischei She’arim. Although he studied in the traditional Yeshivos, R. Weintraub forged his own path, delving into Kabbalah and the world of the Vilna Gaon. He lived in Bnei Brak, where he was greatly revered and taught a small group of select Talmidim.
