Of continual acquiescence to the mainstream, to what was considered “normal”. In a way I am still that little girl, now conscious of a wish to find myself in a TRULY open society, where acceptance doesn’t require one to clip their wings, where life blooms without stymie and gardens unconcerned with expectation. My art represents all the different ways nature shines, especially through a sexuality that needs not be attached to shame. My work confronts observers with a new kind of sexuality unburdened by shame. For every girl confronted by expectations about her sexuality, this is a rebranding, a movement towards fluidity and aging in a beautifully innocent way. Humankind is supposedly created according to sexual polarization. Woman and man, Adam and Eve. We are taught that gender is identity, grouping men and women into opposed dichotomies, with women allocated to the private space and men to the public, women granted connection to the emotional and men to logic. The oppositional dictates of this system translate to a construct of opposition, with women dominated, intimacy stymied. This balance of power is by now means extant in the modern world. It is so deeply rooted that it informs much of our relationships on a level below consciousness. In my work I emphasize the dissociation of these deeply rooted sexual biases by showing the innocence of sex and intimacy, by pushing viewers beyond their conscious interpretations to a place beyond bias. I'm trying to make it more simple for the next generation and also reveal the gender fluidity as a beautiful, unique and friendly. to change the perception of the other, rejected by society for not fulfilling the expectations of their gender, who society tells us we should fear or disdain.
