Four postcards sent from post office managers around the world [with their handwriting and stamps!] to the director of the Austrian Post in Jerusalem Max Rabl - their handwriting, their signature, their personal stamp, important exit stamps and receipt stamps of Jerusalem - one and only item of its kind for postal history collectors!

The postcards were sent by post office managers in different countries with their signatures and stamps to the postmaster in Jerusalem. He collected these postcards because of their importance, and kept them. After about one hundred and twenty years they are now for sale. - An amazing item for the history of the post office in the Land of Israel and the history of the settlement.

רקע

בית הדואר האוסטרי עומד עד היום במקומו הראשון. בקומה הראשונה היה בית הדואר ובשנייה מנהל בית הדואר גר עם משפחתו.

כאשר נכנסים לעיר העתיקה בשער יפו, ופונים לכיוון הקישלה והרובע הארמני, עומדים ליד בית גדול ולבן. זהו הדואר האוסטרי. התמונות מאז זהות לחלוטין לכפי שהוא נראה היום. בתוך המבנה עדיין יש את השלט המקורי של הדואר האוסטרי.

לתורכים היה הסכם עם המעצמות שאף הם יכולים לתת שירותי דואר בארץ ישראל, הן בתוכה והן ממנה ואליה. פעלו בארץ: הדואר האוסטרי, הגרמני, הצרפתי, הרוסי והאיטלקי, וכמובן התורכי. בדרך כלל היהודים העדיפו את האוסטרי הן מפאת יעילותו וזריזותו, והן מפאת שהשפה של פקידיו הייתה ידועה לרבים מהם.

הגלויות שלפנינו נשלחו על ידי מנהלי בתי דואר בארצות שונות עם חתימת ידם וחותמותיהם למנהל הדואר בירושלים. הלה אסף את הגלויות הללו בגלל חשיבותן, ושמר אותן בבית גנזיו. אחרי כמאה ועשרים שנה הן עומדות עתה למכירה. – פריט מדהים לתולדות הדואר בארץ ישראל ותולדות הישוב.
