The painting is from when he was a Kibbutz member and therefore is unsigned. The painting is extremely rare since most of works of art were oil on wood and were destroyed in a fire.
Leo Roth was born in Poland in 1914. In 1926, he moved with his family to Germany. He studied art, graphics and the history of art with the well-known teacher Yosef Dobelfeld.
He worked in the fields of graphics, interior design and showcase design.
He immigrated to the Land of Israel in 1933 and joined Kibbutz Afikim. In 1935, he studied with the Artist Frankel in Safed. He studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and completed frescoes in Italy and France in the 1950's. He returned to Afikim and worked as a shepherd. In 1953 he established the Art Academy of the Kibbutzim.
In 1959, he was awarded the Jordan Valley Prize for Painting. In 1988, he exhibited some of his works in Spain.
