Holocaust Money, the Flossenbürg Camp, Germany - 1 Mark Banknote - Graded 30 by PMG - 1934-1944 - Rare
The Flossenbürg camp was a concentration camp that was built by the Nazis in 1938 in Oberpfälzer Wald near the city of Weyden, Bavaria.
Approximately 90,000 people were imprisoned in the camp; at least 30,000 of them perished. Although the camp was expanded again and again, it always imprisoned people above and beyond than its capacity. The living conditions in the camp were unbearable. The forced labor in the quarries, the hunger, lack of medical treatment and the cruelty of the guards cost many prisoners their lives.
On April 20 1945, the camp was evacuated. Its commander Max Koelgel sent the prisoners on a Death march to Dachau. With the end of the war, approximately 5,000 bodies of prisoners were found beside the route of the Death march. 1,600 prisoners, who were not fit to march, remained in the camp.
Condition: Graded 30 by PMG.
