MEDAL of Thomas Jefferson (obverse), with Monticello (reverse). Rare medal struck in tin (white metal) in choice uncirculated condition.

In 1860 Robert Lovett Sr. issued a series of medals depicting all U. S. Presidents, along their residences on the reverse. With Lincoln’s election, he added him to the series in 1861.

When this medal was issued, Commodore Uriah P. Levy owned, had restored, and developed the lands surrounding Jefferson’s Virginia home of Monticello. In 1862 the Confederate government seized the property from Levy classifying him as “an alien enemy”.
