Ferrara Jewry, Italy - Document of ”Ferrara Jewish Congress” (May 12 - May 17, 1863). - A document, probably things read by the president of the Jewish University of Turin - Alessandro Malvano, whose signature is at the end of the document. thirty-one delegates met at Ferrara on May 12, 1863; they protested energetically against the frequent forcible baptism of Jewish children, and resolved to ask the government for a reform of the laws of the community and for the right of the rabbis to grant divorces. They further proposed to make religious instruction obligatory, in order to promote a sense of religious duty; to disseminate good books on Jews and Judaism; and to found an Italian rabbinical seminary. 4 pages written at both sides
