"The Immigrants Coming to Ellis Island", silver plaque – a relief made by Henryk Winograd (1917-2008). Marked: "HW999".
The relief depicts Jewish immigrants on a ship in front of Ellis Island in New York Harbor. The relief has a cloth-covered backing, with a suspension loop.
Since the late 19th century, Ellis Island served as an immigration inspection station of the USA immigration department. Over the years, more than 12 million immigrants passed through the station, many of them Jews who had escaped from Europe.
Approx. 9X12 cm. Good condition.
