Letter of Ethics by Rabbi Eizik Sher, Slobodka, 1903
Shana Tova letter by the righteous Ga’on Rabbi Eizik Sher, to his friend Rabbi Avraham No’ach Palei. Slobodka, Elul 1903.
In the letter he cites sayings from the sermons of Rabbi Itzele Blazer (recited last Elul prior to his immigration to Jerusalem). Words of ethics applicable to month of Elul [on behalf of “Alter of Slobodka”?]: “… I have heard in the name of my in-law [his rabbi and teacher, Rabbi Natan Tzvi Finkel – who became Rabbi Eizik’s in-law that same year], that people say that Elul isn’t a bear, and he said that this is indeed the truth; Elul isn’t a bear, since King David hit the bear and was not intimidated by him; and in anticipation of Elul and the Day of Judgment he would be instilled with fear…”.
3 pages, 20.5 cm. Good condition, stains and minor damage on folds.
