Sefer Shoshanat Ha’Amakim, which includes two books: Emek Tefillah, by Rebbe Rabbi Ya’akov Yisrael Twersky of Cherkasy. Emek HaChochma by Rebbe Rabbi Mordechai Dov Twerski of Hornostaipil. Lublin 1884. First edition.
The righteous Ga’on Rabbi Ya’akov Yisrael Twerski of Cherkasy (1792-1876), among greatest Rebbes of Ukraine, son of Rabbi Mordechai the Maggid of Chernobyl and son-in-law of Rabbi Dov Ber Schneersohn the Mitteler (middle) Rebbe. His grandson, son of his daughter, is Rebbe Rabbi Mordechai Dov Twerski of Hornostaipil (1840-1903), son-in-law of the “Divrei Chaim” of Sanz. Was orphaned in childhood and raised in home of his grandfather. After the demise of his grandfather, printed the book and [anonymously] added to it his composition “Emek HaChochma”. [Name of author of Emek HaChochma was revealed on title page of second publication of book, Satmar, 1928]. Composed many books in Halachah, Kabbalah and Chassidism.
The Steipler, RabbiYaakov Yisrael Kanievsky (1899-1985), born in Hornostaipil, was born from a marriage which was recommended by Rebbe Rabbi Mordechai Dov and named after the Rebbe Rabbi Ya’akov Yisrael of Cherkasy.
