Medal, made by Shmuel Krechmer, presented as a gift by the State of Israel to the Jewish philanthropist William Rosenwald. October, 1955. Silver (sterling). Marked: "Krechmer". Obverse: enlarged illustration appearing on an ancient Hebrew Shekel coin. Reverse: the inscription: "Gratefully presented to William Rosenwald of the 1955 UJA study mission by the state of Israel". William Rosenwald (1903-1996), an American businessman and philanthropist, led the National Coordinating Committee Fund, which merged with two other organizations, to for the "United Jewish Appeal" (UJA) in 1939.
