1. Embroidered cap. Southern Hebron Hills, Eretz Israel, early 20th century.
Cotton, embroidery threads and coins. This embroidered cap has a pointy top and is made mainly from red threads. (In the east, the red color was considered protective against the evil eye and thus the large usage of it).The design is composed of black and orange geometrical decorations. The fabric lining of the cap is sewn with coarse stitches. On its back side, the cap is decorated with coins; An Austro-Hungarian Empire thaler, with the portrait of the Empress Maria Theresa on one side and a double headed eagle, the symbol of the Austro-Hungarian Empire on the verso. It also has 13 smaller coins dating to the Ottoman Empire period. On both sides of the cap are long embroidered straps with a geometrical design and laces with plastic and wooden beads and pompoms.
Length: 13 cm, diameter: 18 cm, length of each band: 197 cm. Good condition, the embroidery is a little worn out.
2. Cap with a pointy crown, with nine Ottoman Empire Period coins, Southern Hebron Hills, Eretz Israel, early 20th century.
Cotton, embroidery threads and coins.
The main color in the design is red with geometrical decorations in orange, light red, and black. The coins are attached to a purple material that was attached to the embroidery. Both sides of the cap have loops that connect the cap with a larger headdress. Height: 14 cm, diameter: 17 cm. Good condition. The lining is stitched coarsely and has a tear.
3. Cap with a pointy crown, embroidered with spacious stitches, with seven Maria Theresa, Austro-Hungarian, thaler coins and one Ottoman Empire period coin. Southern Mt. Hevron, Eretz Israel, early 20th century. The cap has a cloth attachment with the coins sewn to it and two loops for attaching the cap to a larger headdress. Height: 12 cm, Diameter: 18 cm. the embroidery is a little worn out, the lining is stitched coarsely.
