Sefer Minchat Chinuch, “Comprehensive explanation on Sefer HaChinuch, of tremendously in-depth study and excellent proficiency, wonder of wonders…” Sections 1-3. Lemberg, [1869]. Printing press of Rabbi Uri Zev Wolf Salat.
First edition of the book which was published anonymously, during lifetime of author, Ga’on Rabbi Yosef Babad Av Beit Din of Tarnopol, and as is written on title page: “Authored by one of geniuses of our days the holy and pure, and due to his humbleness emitted his name… was published with the supreme effort of the rabbi… Reuven Cohen Rapaport”. Only in the second edition which was published in Lemberg in 1889, approximately 15 years after the demise of the author, did the publisher reveal the name of the author.
Sefer Minchat Chinuch, eventually became one of the basic books of erudite and in-depth study, in all places of Torah study, in Galicia and Poland, Lithuania and Hungary, and in the entire Diaspora until today. Throughout the years thousands of copies in dozens of editions were printed, aside from dozens of books that pose discussions pertaining to it.
Three volumes: [2], 116 leaves; [1], 148 leaves; [2], 105, 4, [3] leaves. Approx. 35.5 cm. Varying paper; some of high quality and some brittle. Good condition, slight tears. New cloth bindings, placed within matching cardboard and cloth case.
First edition, especially rare.
