Letter with New Year Greetings Signed by Rachmistrivka Rebbes - Rabbi Avraham Dov and Rabbi David - Jerusalem, 1937
Letter signed by two Rachmistrivka rebbes - R. Avraham Dov and R. David Twersky. Jerusalem, Tishrei 1937.
Sent to R. "Avraham Leib son of Sarah Sobil Zilberman, Rabbi and Moreh Tzedek in the city of Safed". Blessing of "Gmar chatima tova for a good blessed successful happy year, crowned with all good… G-d should help and bless all your endeavors and fulfill your wishes in spiritual and material matters… He should soon send good matches for your son and daughters. We, who pray for them and for all the Jewish people for deliverance and complete Redemption soon…".
The Rachmistrivka Rebbes had an interesting tradition of two rebbes simultaneously leading a mutual court, jointly receiving those who came for blessings and side by side reading kvitlach and leading the tisch (Chassidic gatherings). This was instituted after the death of R. Yochanan of Rachmistrivka in 1895, when his son R. Ze'ev Twersky of Rachmistrivka (died in 1937) led the followers together with his brother R. Menachem Nachum of Rachmistrivka (1840-1936). In 1926, R. Menachem Nachum immigrated to Jerusalem followed by R. Ze'ev in 1935. After R. Menachem Nachum died in 1936, both his sons, R. Avraham Dov Twersky (1865-1945) and R. David (1872-1951) were appointed rebbes for a simultaneous tenure. R. David is the father of R. Yochanan of Rachmistrivka-Jerusalem, and grandfather of R. Yisrael Mordechai, father of R. David of Rachmistrivka-Jerusalem.
This letter is written on the official stationery of both rebbes, "Avraham Dov and David sons of R. Menachem Nachum of Rachmistrivka", and bears the full signature of both holy brothers - a rare letter attesting to the brief joint tenure of the two holy brothers.
Official stationery, 26.5 cm. Good condition, filing holes.
