Two Puzzles - Scenes from the Book of Esther - France, 19th Century
Two printed puzzle boards with scenes from the Book of Esther. The publishers: Paris: Gosselin F[rançoi]s; Lyon: Gadola; Montrejeau: Forgues. France, [ca. mid-19th century]. French and Spanish.
Two color lithographs mounted on plywood boards and cut into twenty-four pieces that can be joined together. The two lithographs are numbered (2 and 4) and were apparently printed as part of a series.
1. Triomphe de Ma[rd]ochee / Triunfo de Mardocheo [The Triumph of Mordecai]. Illustration depicting Haman leading Mordecai on the house, beneath it an explanatory caption in French and Spanish. Board approx. 24.5X32 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains (dark stain to top left corner). Small part missing from one of the puzzle pieces (with damage to text).
2. Punition D'Aman / Punicion De Aman [Haman's Punishment]. Illustration showing Haman being led to the king and followed by the gallows. Beneath the illustration is an explanatory caption in French and Spanish. Board approx. 24.5X32 cm. Good-fair condition. Stains; some dark. Some of the print pieces are partly detached from the plywood board (one piece entirely detached).
