Accompanied by 40 engraved plates (steel engravings), two large folding colored maps (of the Holy Land and of Sinai and Egypt), and numerous in-text illustrations (wood engravings).

The steel and wood engravings, depicting the landscapes of the Holy Land, its inhabitants and surroundings, are based on drawings by Harry Fenn and John Douglas Woodward.
