Zohar Chai, kabbalistic and Chassidic commentary on the Zohar, by Rebbe Yitzchak Eizik Yehuda Yechiel Safrin, rabbi of Zidichov (Zhydachiv) and Komarno, author of Heichal HaBerachah. Lviv-Premishla (Przemyśl), 1875-1881. First edition. Four of five parts, without part IV – second part of Book of Shemot (Parashiot Terumah-Pekudei).


Zohar Chai is an original and profound commentary on the Zohar, based on fundamentals of the teachings of the Arizal and the Baal Shem Tov.
The author, Rebbe Yitzchak Eizik Yehuda Yechiel Safrin Rabbi of Zidichov and Komarno (1806-1874), a G-dly kabbalist and leading transmitter of the teachings of the Baal Shem Tov. His books, in particular the Heichal HaBerachah commentary, are considered classic Chassidic works cherished by prominent Chassidic leaders.


On the title page of Shemot part, stamps of R. Mordechai, son of R. Avraham Dov Berkowitz Rabbi of Łachwa (1825-1899). Handwritten inscription on the title page of the final volume: "Donated by R. Moshe Yaakov son of Gella Chana of Sambor, to the Safed Beit Midrash…" (a special acknowledgment to R. Moshe Yaakov [Holtzman] of Sambor, who distributed the book, was printed at the end of this volume).


Four volumes. Without second part of Shemot (Parashiot Terumah-Pekudei). Vol. I (Bereshit, part I): [4], 215 leaves. Vol. II (Bereshit, part II): [1], 216-348, 348-456, [1] leaves. Vol. III (Shemot, part I): [4], 166 leaves. Vol. IV (Vayikra-Devarim): [2], 228, [5] leaves. 24-24.5 cm. Dry, brittle paper (occasionally somewhat browned). First three volumes in overall good condition, vol. IV in good-fair condition. Stains. Worming (primarily to vol. IV), affecting text. Tears. Marginal paper repairs to several leaves. Stamps (partially deleted). New (uniform) bindings.
