Mishnah Berurah – Four Parts – "Proofread" – Signatures and Glosses
Shulchan Aruch Orach Chaim, with Mishnah Berurah and Biur Halachah, by R. Yisrael Meir HaKohen of Radin, author of Chafetz Chaim. Parts I-IV. Warsaw, [1884-1904]. Four of six volumes. One or two of them are presumably first editions.
List of pre-subscribers at the end of the first volume; this leaf was only printed in the first edition.
Volumes II, III and IV marked "Proofread" (in pencil).
Handwritten note on the endpaper of vol. I, with summaries of halachot. At the foot of the page, stamp of Rebbe Yitzchak Eizik Rosenbaum, son of Rebbe Yissachar Ber Rosenbaum of Storozhynets and son-in-law of Rebbe Meir Isaacson of Roman.
In the second volume, dozens of lengthy handwritten glosses, from two writers. Various stamps, including stamp of R. Yonah Kaplivatski Rabbi of Căpreşti (Bessarabia).
Handwritten dedication on the front endpaper of vol. III.
Four volumes: [1], 2-151, [1] leaves; [1], 2-154, [1 blank leaf]; [2], 3-76, 78-80, [1], 81-195 leaves; [1], 196-290 leaves. 22-23 cm. Condition varies. Stains, wear and tears. Vol. I: open tears to title page and margins of first and final leaves (affecting text on some leaves). Vol. II: worming. Vol. III: tears to several leaves. Open tears to leaf 77 (bound out of place, after leaf 80). New, matching bindings.
Part I is presumably from the first edition (based on the list of pre-subscribers). Part II also seems to be from the first edition (based on date of censorship authorization – 1896, on verso of title page).
