Chovot HaLevavot by Rabbenu Bachye, translated by R. Yehuda ibn-Tibbon. Mantua: [Meir son of Efraim of Padua and Yaakov son of Naftali HaKohen of Gazzolo, 1558-1559].
Fourth edition of the prominent classic work of ethics and worship of G-d, printed in over one hundred editions until this day. The present edition served as prototype for most subsequent editions, and corrections inserted in the present edition, quoting "other books" were incorporated in later editions as part of the main text.
Handwritten inscriptions on the title page, deleted with ink. Lengthy inscription in Italian script on verso of title page.
96 leaves (lacking leaves 97-103, indexes). 23 cm. Wide margins. Fair-good condition. Stains, including mold stains and traces of past dampness. Wear. Minor marginal open tears to title page and several other leaves, not affecting text, repaired in part with paper. Worming. Early parchment binding, with damage and stains.
