Mikraot Gedolot – Venice, 1568 – Complete Set – Large Format

Mikraot Gedolot, Torah Neviim and Ketuvim, with Targums and the commentaries of Rashi, Ralbag, Ibn Ezra, Baal HaTurim, Radak, R. Saadia Gaon and Masorah. Venice: Zuan (Giovanni) di Gara, 1568. Four volumes.
Complete set. Elegant edition of Mikraot Gedolot, in large, impressive format, printed by Zuan di Gara in his first years as printer in Venice.
At top of title page of vol. II, signature of Avraham Yagel (possibly R. Avraham son of Chananya Yagel Gallico of Monselice, author of Lekach Tov, Gei Chizayon and more).
Ownership inscription on title page of vol. I.
Hebrew inscription on title page of vols. I, III and IV, in Italian script: "The derogatory words about pagans do not refer to Christians…" (this inscription was presumably written by an apostate censor). Censor's signatures in Italian in all the volumes, on the title page and final leaf (dated 1600 and 1640).
Four volumes. Vol. I (Torah): [6], 228 leaves. Vol. II (Neviim Rishonim): [1], 234-441 leaves. Vol. III (Neviim Acharonim): [1], 442-685 leaves. Leaf 679 erroneously bound before leaf 662. Vol. IV (Ketuvim): [1], 688-926; 7, [1]; 66 leaves. 38 cm. Good condition. Stains, including dampstains. Worming. Small cut to top of title page in vols. III and IV (not affecting text; slight damage to title page border in one vol.), presumably from removal of signature. A few marginal tears to vol. IV. Censorship expurgations in several leaves. New, elegant leather bindings.
