Hanukkah Lamp – Meknès – Back Plate with Dutch Influence
Hanukkah lamp. Meknès, Morocco, [early 20th century].
Sheet brass, repoussé and punched; cast brass.
Scalloped arch-shaped back plate, decorated in high relief bosses – hemispheres, hearts, and floral and sun-shaped ornaments, the latter with droplet-like rays, influenced by decorative elements on Dutch Hanukkah lamps. Additional, minute decorations (dots, circles, stripes) punched between bosses. Sheet brass servant light surmounting heart-shaped boss at center. Row of oil fonts with pinched, pointed spouts for wicks, floating above drip pan, attached to back plate. Front of drip pan also decorated. Hole for suspension hook.
Height: 26.5 cm. Width: 26 cm. Good condition.
