Parashat Derachim – Venice, 1743 – Important Ownership – Signature of Rabbi Chanoch Heinich HaKohen Schotten "Chassid of Kalisch" (Grandfather of Rebbe Chanoch Heinich HaKohen of Alexander) and Stamp of Rabbi Yissachar Weingott Author of Pitchei She'arim
Parashat Derachim, twenty-six homiletics and Derech Mitzvotecha on the enumeration of the mitzvot, by R. Yehuda Rosanes author of Mishneh LaMelech. Venice, 1743. Second edition.
Signature at top of final page: "Chanoch Heinich HaKohen Schotten of Hanau[?]" – presumably the signature of R. Chanoch Heinich HaKohen Schotten, the "Chassid of Kalisch" (ca. 1760 – d. before 1798; son of R. Yosef Yozpe HaKohen Schotten of Frankfurt and descendant of the Maharsheshach R. Shmuel HaKohen Schotten of Frankfurt, author of Kos HaYeshuot). He is recorded as having been born in Frankfurt, yet he may have grown up in Hanau, which is close to Frankfurt. For over 20 years he lived in Kalisch, where he devoted himself entirely to Torah study. He was renowned as a holy man and one of the leading kabbalists in his times.
His grandson, named after him, was Rebbe Chanoch Heinich HaKohen Levin of Alexander (1798-1870).
Additional stamps and signatures, including the stamp "Yissachar son of R. Y.L. in Koil" – presumably the stamp of R. Yissachar Weingott, son of R. Yehuda Leib of Kalisch and son-in-law of R. Efraim Segal Rabbi of Koil. A leading Polish rabbi in his times. Author of Pitchei She'arim and Shaar HaLekutot.
[2], 76 leaves. 25.5 cm. Fair-good condition. Stains and wear. Small tears to corners of title page and several other leaves. Stamps. Old binding.
