Shelah Siddur Shaar HaShamayim – First Edition, Amsterdam, 1717 – Segulah Book – Incomplete Copy
Shaar HaShamayim siddur – prayers for weekdays, Shabbat and festivals, Yotzerot, Passover Haggadah, piyyutim and Selichot for fasts, book of Tehillim with Maamadot. With Shaar HaShamayim – a kabbalistic commentary on the prayers, by R. Yeshaya HaLevi Horowitz – the Shelah. Includes an anthology of laws and customs, by the editor and publisher R. Avraham Segal Horowitz of Posen, great-grandson of the author. Amsterdam, [1717]. First edition. Two volumes.
Separate title pages for the book of Tehillim and Seder Maamadot (lacking first title pages).
Most of the prayers in this siddur follow the Ashkenazi rite, apart from some prayers which were printed in both Ashkenazi and Sephardi rite side by side, as the author requested in his will.
Praying from this siddur bears the special segulah of the prayer being accepted, as prominent rabbis attested in their approbations to this siddur.
Several handwritten glosses by different writers.
Incomplete copy. Two volumes. Vol. I: [3], 4-239 leaves. Lacking first [2] title pages (replaced in photocopy). Vol. II: 240-335; 139; 130; [1], [49] leaves. Lacking final three leaves (replaced in photocopy). Size varies, Vol. I: 24 cm; Vol. II: 20.5 cm. Overall fair condition. Stains and wear. Tears to many leaves in both volumes, including some with damage and loss of text (primarily in Vol. II), repaired with paper (both volumes professionally restored, marginal open tears to 25 leaves in Vol. I, professionally remargined for conformity).
