Large Collection of Ephemera – Transportation in Palestine by Land, Sea, and Air
Some 230 items relating to modes of transport in Palestine (camels, donkeys, trains, airplanes, ships, submarines, zeppelins, buses, cable cars, automobiles, taxis, etc.). [From the early decades of the 20th century to the 2000s].
Included:
● Some 135 postcards and real-photo postcards. The postcards feature cargo transport on the backs of donkeys and camels, transportation in the cities of Palestine, airplanes, ships, submarines, and other modes of transport; some were printed on behalf of specific transport companies or airlines (including the Palestine [or Israel] Maritime League and the Israel Air Force) for purposes of advertisement. Most date from the years following the establishment of the State of Israel, but roughly 30 postcards are from the 1920s through the 1940s.
● Some 95 items of ephemera relating to transportation – photographs, flyers, receipts, brochures, pamphlets, single sheets. These include brochures and menus of the luxury ocean liner SS Conte di Savoia, which landed in the Port of Haifa in March 1935; permits to board a ship for business purposes (1930s and 1940s); preparatory sketches for an advertisement for the SS Polonia, by the graphic artist Sarah Rozman, Haifa, 1937; photos of sports cars in Palestine from the 1920s through the 1940s; a photograph of a zeppelin over Jerusalem; an issue of the aviation journal "HaTe'ufah"; passenger ticket for a journey on board the SS Tel Aviv from Haifa to Trieste (1930s); stationery and receipts of transportation and transport companies and Palestine-based travel agencies; time schedules and fare schedules for ship departures; bill of lading for a cargo ship; menu for the SS Israel liner; the album "Pages of Memoirs, History of the ‘Drom Yehudah' Cooperative" (Hebrew), edited by Zvi Rosenblum (illustration and layout by graphic designers Rothschild and Lipman), published by the directorate of the Drom Yehudah Cooperative bus company, 1956; tickets for the chair lift at the Mt. Hermon ski resort and the cable car at the Rosh Hanikra tourist site; receipts for "sherut" taxi services; additional items.
