AN IMPORTANT GOLD AND SILVER CIGARETTE BOX BY ILYA SCHOR GIVEN TO THE ARTIST MANE - KATZ. New York,

Crafted from an Austrian cigarette case. Decorated with gold and silver openwork reliefs of Jewish figures including a sofer, a violinist, a cellest, a father discipling a child, a guard, a child giving flowers to an artist. a wood chopper, a bagpipe player, a flutisit, a percussionist and a shoemaker on the front. On the back there is a man affixing a mezuzah to a doorpost, a man carrying wheat, a man performing kapporot on a child and woman, a man with a spice tower, a man blowing the shofar, a man with a lulav and etrog, a man saying kiddush with his family and simchat torah. The front is inscribed WIth an excerpt from Psalms 115: The heavens are the heavens of the Lord, but the earth he gave to mankind.  The back is inscribed from Psalm 51: Cast me not away from your presence, take not your holy spirit from me.
