A HANDWRITTEN LETTER FROM REAR ADMIRAL ROBERT E. PEARY (May 6, 1856 - February 20, 1920). Brooklyn Navy Yard, dated May 12, 1897. Autographed Signed Letter (ALS). Handwritten in ink declining a future engagement as his plans are uncertain. Peary was an explorer and an officer in the United States Navy famous for expeditions to the Arctic in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was credited with being the discoverer of the North Pole. 8" x 4.7". In a frame with his picture.
