Parchment Leaf, Nice Impressive Script - Piyyutim for Shmini Atzeret, Simchat Torah and Shabbat Ha'Gadol (including Passages from the Haggadah) - the 15th Century - Rare!
Large parchment leaf of a Machzor, Ashkenazic version. The leaf contains handwritten Piyyutim and prayers. The 15th century. Square Ashkenazic script, nice and impressive. Some of the text is vowelized.
On the first page, a title "Ma'ariv for Leil Shmini Atzeret"; the Piyyutim that appear here, however, are those of Leil Simchat Torah.
The leaf contains three Piyyutim that are said between the passages of the prayer:
A. "Et Yom Ha'Shmini Be'Tov Yazmini". This Piyyut was used to be said in Western Ashkenaz and Poland. The author: Yitzchak. There are several versions of thi Piyyut.
B. "Shmini Umatz Bifnei Atzmo". This Piyyut also has several versions. The Piyyyut ends with the sentence: "Shmini Shalom Omer Ohalo" – this is most likely, a totally unknown version! The last sentence of the other known versions is "Shmini Shalom Shimur Ohalo".
C. "Shmini Yetzaveh Chasdo Kadosh le'Amo". Here too there are textual variations. For example. Instead of "Moshel Ha;Shalit be'Olamo" that appears in most versions, here, the sentence is "Melech Ha'Shalit Be'Olamo". The second half of the third verse and the fourth verse of the Piyyut appear on the next page, whoch bears the title "Ma'ariv Le'Simchat Torah".
After these three Piyyutim, ther eis the title "Le'Shabbat Ha'Gadol…" and then there are passages from the Haggadah which are read on Shabbat Ha'Gadol.
