Silver pendant with original fraction of bronze coin of Shim’on Bar Cochba, 132-135 C.E.
Some sixty years after the destruction of the Temple in 70 CE, there was another popular uprising against the Romans. It was led by Shim’on Bar Cochba. In accordance with Jewish law and religious and patriotic feelings the coins depict symbols that relate to the Temple service and to the agricultural produce of the Land of Israel. The inscriptions employed are very emotive such as “for the freedom of Israel”, “for the redemption of Israel”, “for the freedom of Jerusalem”.
The most common coin of this series depicts a vine leaf, with the inscription “year two of the freedom of Israel”, or “for the freedom of Jerusalem” and palm tree with the inscription “Shim’on”, two of the seven agricultural species of the Land of Israel with inscriptions compatible with a time of national emergency.

Size: 3.2 X 2.1 centimeter approximately.
Total weight (the pendant and the coin): 8.6 grams approximately.

Ideal gift from the Holy Land. The item includes an elegant certificate of authenticity.
