the blessing
State medal, 1988
"May the Lord bless you and keep you..." This is the blessing that the sons of Aaron the priests were commanded to bless the children of Israel with love, in every David and generation. This blessing, which was part of the work of the temple, which lives in our mouths to this day, is said in the morning prayer and every night of Shabbat and holidays, parents use it to bless their children. In the archaeological excavations, which were conducted in the shoulder of Hinnom in Jerusalem, two small silver scrolls were uncovered, and in one of them a fragmentary text was discovered, almost identical to the "Blessing of the Priests" in the Torah. This is the first time that an object of this type has been discovered, with such an ancient writing from the First Temple period, and according to the nature of the inscriptions and the shape of the scroll, there is no doubt that the pouch that contained the "Blessing of the Priests" was worn on the neck, heart or hand, and was used as a talisman, and as a virtue for success.
The face of the medal: a stylized drawing of the priest's hands as he blesses the people. In the upper part, along the circumference, the inscription "May the Lord bless you and protect you". In the lower part, along the circumference, the inscription "may the lord bless you". The name of the name in Hebrew and English is embedded in the enlargement.
The back of the medal: a silver plate from the First Temple period on which the blessing of the priests is engraved, in ancient Hebrew script (7th century BCE), a rare archaeological find that came up in the excavations of the Yonam shoulder in Jerusalem and was used as a talisman. On the left, along the perimeter, the inscription "Blessing of the priests Priestly Blessing•". The 12.5 mm and 14 mm gold medals show the state emblem, the inscription "ISRAEL" and the metal authentication symbol according to the Standards Institute.
