Case for the Israeli Declaration of Independence, Heinz Gumbel
A rare silver plated metal case designed by Heinz Gumbel. One of a limited numbers of replicas made by Gumbel of the original case made for the Israeli Declaration of Independence. Height: 38.5 cm, some wear to the plating. The original silver case was made in 1949 by Heinz Gumbel of Bezalel, and was approved by the Israeli government later that year. It was presented to the public for the first time in 1950, on the exhibition of the Israel State Archives, where it is currently kept. The case is embossed with a verse from Isaiah: "Thy sun shall no more go down; neither shall thy moon withdraw itself", along with other Hebrew inscriptions and the Menorah.
