V MURILLO BARTOLOMÉ ESTEBAN: (1617-1682)

MURILLO BARTOLOMÉ ESTEBAN: (1617-1682) Spanish Painter. One of the main painters of the Baroque era. Murillo is worldwide known for his lively portraits of women, children and beggars. He also painted two self-portraits, one in the Frick Collection portraying him in his 30s, and one in the London's National Gallery portraying him 20 years later. His masterpieces are exhibited in the most important museums such as the Louvre, El Prado, the Hermitage or the cathedral of Seville. An extremely rare autograph letter signed by Murillo, A.L.S., `Ba[rtolo]me Murillo´, with flourish, one page, oblong 4to, n.p., 13th March 1674, to Juan Antonio de la Torre, in Spanish. The document being a receipt that Murillo issues to his correspondent, acknowledging the payment of a rental, stating `Recivi (sic) del Sr. Don Juan Antonio de La Torre ochenta reales de bellón (sic) por la renta de dos años de un tributo que su M[erce]d paga de unas casas que tiene en la Villa de Pilas que pertenecen a unas Capellanias que yo administro y es de la Renta del año de setenta y dos y setenta y tres y por verdad lo ... e n13 del mes de marzo de este año de 1674. Son 80 Reales´ (Translation: "I received from Mr. Juan Antonio de La Torre eighty reales of fleece for the rent of two years corresponding to a tribute that Your Grace pays for some houses that you hold in the town of Pilas which belongs to one of the chaplaincies that I administer and corresponds to the rent of the year seventy-two and seventy-three, and therefore I certify.... on the 13th of the month of March of the present year 1674.
