FLEMING ALEXANDER: (1881-1955) Scottish Biologist, Nobel Prize winner for Physiology or Medicine, 1945. T.L.S., Alexander Fleming, one page, 8vo, Paddington, London, 21st December 1949, to Dr. I. Geikie-Cobb, on the printed stationery of The Wright-Fleming Institute of Microbiology at St. Mary's Hospital Medical School. Fleming writes, in full, 'I enclose my contribution (no longer present) to your book "A guide to medicine" and hope that it is in time and is what you want'. Together with the retained carbon typed copy of Geikie-Cobb's letter to Fleming, signed with his initials I G-C, one page, 4to, n.p. (London?), 18th October 1949, stating, in part, 'You most kindly promised to write a short article on Antibiotics for my book, A Guide to Medicine, and you asked me to remind you a little nearer the time of publication so that you could include the most recent work. I am glad to tell you the book is nearly completed…..I shall be very grateful if you could let me have your contribution within the next few weeks…..' Two file holes to the left edge of each letter, not affecting the text or signatures. VG, 2
