Obverse: allegorical female figure + Fr. legend "100 Planets Discovered Between Mars and Jupiter 1801-1868" & names of 3 pioneering astronomers Piazzi, Olbers & Hencke. Reverse: profiles of John Russell Hind, Goldschmidt & Robert Luther.
Goldschmidt received the Royal Astronomical Society's Gold Medal in 1861 for discovering more asteroids than any other person up to that time. In original case.
