בידספיריט | ספר הוקרה/הנצחה ל-275 שנות קיום
ספר הוקרה/הנצחה ל-275 שנות קיום הקהילה הפורטוגזית-יהודית בהמבורג, 1652-1927, מעת אספן הספרים הנודע אלפונסו קאסוטו, בהוצאת היהודי מנו הרצברגר ומודפס על ידי מקס לסמן; מוגבל ל-300 עותקים שזה מספר 222; 32 עמודים - German Portuguese-Jewish Community: Gedenkschrift Anlasslich des 275 jahrigen Bestehens der portugiesisch-jüdischen Gemeinde in Hamburg, 5413-1652 - 5688-1927; by Alfonso Cassuto, published by Menno Hertzberger, Amsterdam & printed by Max Lessmann (aka Marek Rubin) of Hamburg, 1927; 32 pages. The book was a specilized limited edition printing of 300 copies (here #222), produced as an illustrated commemorative publication on the occasion of the 275th anniversary of the Portuguese Jewish community in Hamburg (1652-1927), featuring a documentary history of the community, a list of Portuguese-Jewish Rabbis in Hamburg and books by Portuguese-Jewish authors printed in Hamburg, Altona and Gluckstadt. A rare resource for specialist Judaic book collectors and historians. The cover is contemporary to the book but is not the illustrated type which replicates the design of the title page; the inside pages are intact and pristine, if a little dirty from the ink from compression against one another; the title page has some handwritten catalogue(?) numbers. The Cassuto family were a well known established family in Hamburg of Portuguese descent, reknowned for assembling one of the greatest libraries of Sephardica and Judaica; the author Alfonso (1910-1990) emigrated to Portugal in 1933. As such it's no surprise that publication of this book was entrusted to Hertzberger (1897-1982), a distinguished Dutch-Jewish book dealer, internationally reknowned and awarded, who founded the Dutch Association of Antiquarian Booksellers.
