Collection of the Swedish King Carl XV

Carl Abraham Rothstén, a Swedish painter, was born in 1826. He was a craftsman painter for many years before he began his education at the Academy of Fine Arts in Stockholm, and he drew his motifs mainly from Stockholm and its surroundings.

Rothstén’s paintings are held in the collections of the Stockholm City Hall and the museums in Linköping and Örebro.

Featuring a panorama view of Bohus fortress with Kungläw in the background, the present painting belonged to the collection of Carl XV, King of Sweden and Norway. We can see his initials «CXV» on the reverse of the stretcher.
