A SMALL HELLENISTIC GLASS SKYPHOS, CA. 1ST CENTURY BC

A small Hellenistic glass skyphos of characteristic shape with thumbholes projecting outward from the sides of the cup. The glass is of an almost quartzite color and is fairly opaque. Because of the small nature of this skyphos the thumbholds are too small for adult fingers to fit into, suggesting the item may have been meant for a child.

Ancient Hellenic World - CA. 1st Century BC.

H: 2 1/2 in., (6.4 cm.); W: 5 1/2 in., (14 cm.)

Condition: Evidence of previous breakage and subsequent repair, all pieces appear to be original. Some wear across surface due to age. Some sediment on surface.
