After the Second World War, Frenkel settled in Austria, where he became the owner of a respected art gallery in Vienna and established himself as a discerning collector within the European art market. Over several decades, Frenkel actively acquired works from major cultural centers, particularly Paris and Vienna. His collection reflected both intellectual curiosity and a cultivated appreciation for modern and post-war art. According to information provided by the family, the present work was acquired in Paris from Galerie Mayor, a gallery active during the mid-20th century. The acquisition corresponds with Frenkel’s documented collecting activity during the 1960s–1980s, when he regularly purchased works from established Parisian galleries with recognized standing in the European art market. The artwork remained in his private collection until his passing in 2001 and has since been preserved within the family.
