After the Second World War, Frenkel settled in Austria, where he established himself as the owner of a respected art gallery in Vienna and developed a reputation as a refined and well-connected collector. Over several decades, Frenkel actively acquired artworks from major European cultural centers, particularly Paris, Vienna, and London. His collecting practice reflected both intellectual curiosity and a sophisticated appreciation for modern and post-war art. According to family information, the present work was acquired in Paris from Galerie Mayor, a gallery active during the mid-20th century and recognized for its engagement with modernist and avant-garde artists. The acquisition is consistent with Frenkel’s documented collecting activity between the 1960s and 1980s, when he regularly purchased works from reputable galleries within the European art market. The work remained in his private collection until his passing in 2001 and has been preserved within the family since that time.
