After the Second World War, Frenkel settled in Austria, where he established and operated a respected art gallery in Vienna. Over several decades, he developed a reputation as a discerning collector with strong engagement in the European modern art market. Frenkel actively acquired works in major cultural centers including Paris, Vienna, and Germany, with particular focus on post-war European modernism. According to family records, the present work was acquired in Paris from Galerie Nierendorf, a gallery active during the mid-20th century and recognized for its involvement with modernist and avant-garde artists. The provenance is consistent with Frenkel’s documented collecting activity during the 1960s-1980s, when he regularly purchased artworks from established galleries with strong reputations within the European art market. The work remained in his private collection until his passing in 2001 and has since been preserved within the family.
