בידספיריט | Konstantin Korovin (1861-1939), Portrait of

Konstantin Korovin (1861-1939), Portrait of a Lady in a Hat - Oil on canvas  Signed lower left Dimensions:105 x 62.2 cm Provenance: Property from the Estate of Israel and Sarah Beniminovich, Tel Aviv. Notes:The present work originates from the family of Zari Sarah Beniminovich (née Herzberg), who served as a caregiver to Alexei Korovin, the son of the renowned Russian painter Konstantin Korovin (1861–1939), during the artist’s later years. According to family records, due to Korovin’s difficult financial circumstances in the early 1920s, the artist compensated Zari Sarah Herzberg for her dedicated care of his son through artworks. In 1923, Korovin painted a portrait of her, now recognized among works depicting members of his close circle. Additionally, he presented her with a still life depicting a vase with yellow flowers. An inscription written by Alexei Korovin and dated September 23, 1923, appears on one of the works: “To Nurse Herzberg, thank you very much for your devoted and long care. Alexei.” Following her time in Paris, Zari Sarah Herzberg relocated to Leipzig, Germany, at the end of 1923, where she married Ze’ev Beniminovich. In 1933, the couple emigrated to Mandatory Palestine (later Israel), settling in Tel Aviv. The family subsequently retained the artworks within their private collection for decades. The present work remained in the Beniminovich family until recently and now forms part of the family estate entrusted to Hermasite Auction House Ltd. The estate includes artworks attributed to Konstantin Korovin, as well as silverware, Judaica, German furniture, carpets, books, Rosenthal porcelain, and other period objects. Archival family photographs document Zari Sarah Beniminovich with her husband Ze’ev and their son Israel Sasha Beniminovich at their residence on Nachmani Street, Tel Aviv.
