בידספיריט | Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941), Landscape
Alexej von Jawlensky (1864-1941), Landscape - Gouache on paper Signed lower left Dimensions:33.6 x 25 cm Provenance: The artwork originates from the distinguished collection of Yehuda Frenkel (1916-2001), a notable Holocaust survivor, cultural figure, and documented associate and partner of Oskar Schindler. Following World War II, Frenkel settled in Austria, where he became the owner of a respected art gallery in Vienna and developed a reputation as a refined collector with significant financial means. Over several decades, he actively acquired artworks from major European cultural centers, with a particular focus on Paris and Vienna. His collection reflected both intellectual depth and a well-informed appreciation of modern art. According to information provided by the family, the present work was acquired in Paris at Galerie Charpentier, a gallery active in the mid-20th century and closed for more than 30 years. During its years of operation, Galerie Charpentier was known among collectors as a boutique gallery specializing in modernist and avant-garde works, attracting international buyers such as Frenkel. This provenance is fully consistent with Frenkel’s established collecting patterns. Between the 1960s and 1980s, he regularly purchased works in Paris, often selecting pieces from reputable galleries with strong standing in the European art market. The present work remained in his private collection until his death in 2001 and has been preserved within the family ever since. Notice: Yehuda Frenkel (1916-2001) passed away at the age of 85 and is remembered for both his extraordinary personal history and his influential role in the international art world.
