בידספיריט | Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), plate, ceramic,

Pablo Picasso (1881-1973), plate, ceramic, ”Face of Peace”, 1952 - This plate bears one of the most famous images in 20th-century art. It was created by Pablo Picasso around 1950 and represents an idea drawn from the poetry of Paul Éluard. Originally published as a poster for the 1952 People’s Peace Congress in Vienna, it reappeared on several later occasions, including the 1971 celebration of the 50th anniversary of the French Communist Party. See the image in the catalogue raisonné by Miguel Orozco, whose work I gratefully acknowledge. The plate dates from the late 1950s or early 1960s. It is signed “Picasso” and was produced in faience at the Salins-les-Bains factory. It was later reissued and subsequently manufactured by other factories, including Limoges. Nevertheless, this piece belongs to Picasso’s most productive period in ceramic work. ”Face of Peace” Signed and dated 1952 Diameter: 24 cm Provenance: Private collection, Israel Condition: For a detailed condition report, please contact: info@hammersite.com
