Gabriele Munter (1877-1962), Landscape with Tree - Oil on canvas Signed lower right Dimensions (including frame):129 x 92 cm Dimensions (excluding frame) :86 x 66.5 cm Provenance:From the artist’s studio, transferred by Will Grohmann to Galerie Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet, Paris; acquired from the gallery by Yehuda Frenkel (1916–2001), Vienna; acquired in 1989 by Amar Albert under a legal agreement in Tel Aviv; reported as also acquired in Paris from Galerie Jeanne Bucher (according to family records); thence by descent within the family to the present owner. Notes:The present work originates from the artist’s studio and was transferred by the renowned art historian and critic Will Grohmann to a Parisian gallery, entering the market through Galerie Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet. It subsequently became part of the significant collection of Yehuda Frenkel (1916–2001), a Holocaust survivor, cultural figure, and documented associate of Oskar Schindler. Following the Second World War, Frenkel settled in Austria, where he established and operated an art gallery in Vienna. Over several decades, he developed a carefully curated collection of European modern art, acquiring works primarily in Paris and Vienna during the 1960s–1980s. According to information provided by the family, the present work was acquired in Paris from Galerie Lucien Lefebvre-Foinet, a prominent mid-20th-century gallery known for its engagement with modernist and avant-garde art. As with many cultural institutions operating in Paris during the period of occupation, the gallery’s activities were affected by wartime conditions and historical disruptions. The work remained in Frenkel’s private collection until 1989, when it was sold to Amar Albert under a formal legal agreement in Tel Aviv. It has since remained within the same family collection and is now offered by the present owner. Documentation:Documented transfer from Will Grohmann to the gallery, dated 1949; Purchase agreement between Yehuda Frenkel and Amar Albert, dated 1989.
