Gino Finzi Cup, 1st - 1921 II Targa Florio, Moto Guzzi 500cc
The Targa Florio was one of the oldest Italian motorcycle races, held from 1920 to 1930, for 11 editions, 10 on the Madonie and the last in Palermo. It was organized by Vincenzo Florio, in the footsteps of the car race of the same name. The second edition took place in September 1921 with departure and arrival from Cerda, on a 108 km circuit on the Madonie mountains to be repeated three times. There were two categories: in the largest (750 cc), Domenico Malvisi prevailed over the Indian, but the most spectacular was the 500 cc where the Moto Guzzi, driven by Gino Finzi, also prevailed on its debut. The tenth edition was valid for the Italian championship ranking and recorded 29 appearances, in addition to the record number of participants.
For three years the Modena team also managed motorbikes that won various races throughout Italy. The scheme was the same that animated the Scuderia Ferrari on four wheels: to help sporting customers who intended to engage in competitions by making men, vehicles and technical support available to them.
Furthermore, Enzo Ferrari strongly believed in motorcycling as a training activity for drivers who should probably have supported gentlemen drivers in endurance races
