Sefer Yesod
Shu”t HaRe’em. First Edition. Constantinople, 1560

Shailos and teshuvos on practical halachah by the Re’em, Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi.

Rabbi Eliyahu Mizrachi (1452-1525) was one of the greatest spiritual luminaries in Turkey of his era. His “Mizrachi” on Rashi on the Torah is regarded as one of the most fundamental commentaries on Rashi.

The Re’em’s teshuvos likewise number among the primary sifrei teshuvos, and Gedolei Yisrael throughout the ages drew from his wisdom to formulate their own teshuvos. The Beis Yosef in Kessef Mishnah (Hilchos Gerushin 13a) copied a complete teshuvah of the Re’em that appears in the present sefer (Ch. 20), and the Maharchash relates in his teshuvos (Even Haezer Ch. 3) that the Maharival regarded the Re’em’s teachings as if “Moshe [heard them] from Hashem” (Shem Hagedolim).
